Autophagy is one of the most essential pathway in our human body especially brain. Autophagy is self-cannibalization process which clears the aberrant and aggregated proteins and other damaged organelles. P62 plays an important role in autophagy, and it has great effect in neurodegenerative diseases. My work is based on knocking out the p62 gene from neuroblastoma cell line by using CRISPR-Cas and studying its role in autophagy. I am extremely excited in looking at the after-effects of the knock-out and also deeply interested in studying its role in neurodegenerative diseases, neuronal homeostasis and physiology.
